Water Regulations inc Hot Water Cert

The Water Regulations course is a 1 day top-up training and assessment session, for you to have the knowledge required to be assessed on obtaining the Bpec Water Regulation certificate.

After successfully completing the course you will be able to apply to your local water company to be an 'approved contractor' for water regulation purposes. Importantly, you can self-certify your plumbing work, work for housing associations and other various non-government bodies!

Providing you hold other relevant certificates, you will be able to join the WIAPS Approved Plumbers Scheme

There are no practical assessments to obtain the BPEC Water Regulations certificate

Unvented Hot Water Certificate

The Bpec Unvented Hot Water Systems course is for skilled plumbers and heating engineers who wish to legally install, service or commission domestic hot water systems in the UK. It is a legal building regulations requirement, all domestic unvented hot water systems over 15 litres capacity are maintained by a qualified person. This is someone who holds a current recognised Unvented Hot Water Storage certificate.

The certificate is valid for 5 years, after which the holder must attend an approved centre and take an unvented hot water re-assessment course. Candidates wishing to attend this course must hold a recognised trade qualification in; Plumbing, Gas or Heating and Ventilation. Alternatively, candidates must provide evidence of experience working in the industry in the form of a CV with references which back-up their experience. For re-assessment, candidates must provide their current certificate.

  • Legal requirement to install or maintain unvented hot water systems of over 15 litres in the UK
  • Self-study pre-course manuals and certificate included
  • Open book multiple choice theory test
  • Practical fault finding session
  • Candidates must hold a recognized Trade qualification in either Plumbing, Gas or heating and ventilation or have experience in the plumbing/heating industry verified by a CV
  • Holders can join a competent persons’ scheme
An Example of The Different Learning Modules within Plumbing

Plumbing Training:

The plumbing section will cover the following;

  • Overall Health and Safety per required trade
  • Systems and secure Fitting of plumbing appliances inc Taps, cisterns etc
  • Jointing, bending and pressure testing copper tube inc soldering
  • Copper & toughened plastic pipe-work skills
  • Knowledge of all plumbing systems both domestic & commercial
  • Positioning of all pipes inc soil and waste
  • Fixing & removing of radiators
  • Water-tight testing & snagging training

 

Tiling Training:

Very important to obtain good skills for finishing in both wall & floor tiling;

  • Setting-out & tools required
  • Knowing the different adhesives for different surfaces
  • Cutting tiles using wet & dry cutters, tile scribes, snips and tile saws
  • Tiling styles required; Borders, Diamonds and Patterns.
  • Cut around windows inc basic glazing instruction
  • Tile on un-even walls, angled ceilings, socket areas and splash-backs
  • Tile around boxed in pipes

 

Plastering Training:

Another tough skill to master, to prepare any bathroom you are in so the finished product is completely satisfactory to an expert eye;

  • Cut & fix plaster board to bathroom walls and ceilings
  • Cut and fix angle beads around windows, tape joints
  • Prepare surfaces before plastering using bonding & finishing plaster
  • Mix plastering materials and skim walls & ceilings

To test an applicant's ready to go it alone, the final week will see the applicant completely remove an old bathroom suite inc removing all existing tiles. Prepare all surfaces with plaster inc making good any damage the walls & floors, install the complete bathroom suite - tile and grout the walls & floors. Plumb-in all appliances inc connect Electric Showers.
